First up is this farmhouse-style beauty in Street, MD. Sure, it looks pretty standard at first….until you get to the basement. Then, suddenly, you’re transported to a replica of a New Orleans street! You’ll swear you’re actually walking in a historic shopping district: there’s a “soda shop” (think of the dinner party and bartending possibilities!), a pantry designed to look like a bodega, a closet disguised as a clothing store, and a “movie theater” that’s actually a bedroom covered wall to wall with vintage movie posters. 

If you’re more interested in Prohibition-era history, this next one will definitely be more your speed: the basement was once one of Cumberland, MD’s only two speakeasies! It’s been impeccably maintained over the years, so you and your friends can come up with a secret phrase to whisper through the antique door at the top of the stairs, then hang out around the bar or play a round of poker around the fireplace.

If the fact that this next Darlington, MD house is 200+ years old doesn’t already pull you in, how about its history as a busy stop on the Underground Railroad? It’s one of the oldest buildings in Harford County, and has been beautifully maintained, but the coolest part of this house has to be the “Smokehouse,” a separate building built especially for storing and smoking meat. 

Finally, for all you finance lovers out there, there’s this Denton, MD home, which was converted from a 19th century bank! The home has, of course, been updated and renovated over the past 130+ years, but the coolest feature has remained: the bank vault! That’s right, you get to have your very own antique bank vault, heavy doors and all.
