Every year, home decor trends come and go so fast, it's hard to feel like you're ever "hip" to the trends. At the end of the day, it's all about what makes your home feel most like, well, home! For some, worn leather sofas around a red-brick fireplace is the height of coziness; for others, home feels like a modern, minimalist kitchen full of angles and neutral colors. There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to decorating, just do what moves you!

That being said, if you feel like giving an area of your home a trendy facelift, here are some ideas on their way "in" this year....and some on their way "out":

IN: Blue Accents

Look for lots of bright, bold, rich blues in your home decor magazines - from a royal blue accent wall to an aquamarine end table, the sky is the limit for how to incorporate these gorgeous shades into your home. Blue's versatility makes it easy to decorate around it - add gold decorative pieces to dark blue shelving for a bold look, or paint a light blue accent wall in your bedroom for a cool, calming vibe.

IN: Gold Finishes

It seems brushed nickel's moment is slowly passing through, and gold is back! Gold finishes on hardware, light fixtures, even furniture details are making their way back into the spotlight.

      IN: Listening Rooms

Okay, we know what you're thinking: "what in the millenial world is this?" But apparently, these are becoming a thing, and we're not hating it! If you play the guitar, collect records, curate vintage cassette tapes, or just want to fully immerse yourself in whatever band you're currently into, a listening room might be right up your alley! After all, people have TV rooms, they have libraries, they have game rooms - why can't you have a room dedicated solely to music?

      OUT: Greige.

It seems the world has finally had it with all-white or all-neutral interiors. Sure, neutrals can be cozy and inviting in many ways. But if your home is covered floor-to-ceiling in the visual equivalent of a yawn, treat yourself to some color, some sparkle, some interesting focal points!

      OUT: TV-Centered Living Rooms

This tip may not be for everyone. In fact, it's hard to imagine how to make a living room not center around the TV but also allow for comfortable TV watching. But if you can make it work, congratulations, you're on trend!

      OUT: Minimalist, Bare-Counter Kitchens

Finally! We're allowed to use our kitchens! Thankfully, kitchens are allowed to look functional again - there's no longer any need to act like bowls, utensils, and spices have never entered the space. Decorating with useful, colorful mixing bowls, fresh spices, and vibrant fruit bowls is back in.

So what do you think? What decor elements will you keep in the new year? Which will you toss? Let us know in the comments!
